FBT VHA 406A vs Involight PD616 – Two Worlds, One Rack

FBT VHA 406A vs Involight PD616 – Two Worlds, One Rack

In professional event technology, no single element stands alone – sound and backend infrastructure work hand in hand. Today we’re putting two completely different categories of equipment side by side, yet both are indispensable: the FBT VHA 406A active line array module and the Involight PD616 IP44 power distributor. This isn’t about which one is better – it’s about which one to deploy for which task, and how they complement each other in a complete studio or stage setup.

FBT VHA 406A – The Power of Sound

The FBT VHA 406A is a 2-way bi-amp active line array module that operates with 600W + 300W RMS power. Four 6.5-inch B&C neodymium drivers (with 1.5-inch voice coils) and one 1.4-inch high-frequency driver (2.5-inch voice coil) ensure that the 128–133 dB maximum SPL is impressive not just on paper. The 65 Hz–20 kHz frequency response (-6 dB) provides clean, dynamic sound across a wide range, while the 90° × 20° dispersion pattern precisely targets the audience.

Operation is straightforward: XLR input and output, DSP switch with 8 preset configurations, plus a +/- 5 dB high-frequency level control. The cabinet is made from plywood with internal layer reinforcement, non-slip handle, and rubber feet – the 31 kg weight is average for the category. It’s easily rigged with two M6 mounting points, and optional brackets (VHA-F 406, VHA-FH 406-1) make installation even more flexible. Dimensions: 612 × 360 × 397 mm.

Involight PD616 – Power That Brings Everything to Life

The Involight PD616 is a compact, IP44-rated power distributor that comes with a 230 V 16 A CEE three-pin input and six Schuko sockets (with safety covers). Its protection rating makes it suitable for outdoor use in moderate conditions – on rainy festival days or open stage setups, this is a basic requirement. While it doesn’t sparkle or sing, without it even the most professional sound system stays silent.

The PD616 performs exactly the task a good backstage crew member should: quietly, reliably, flawlessly. Powering six devices in parallel from a single CEE input – this is the simplest weapon in the fight against cable chaos. Plus, it’s lightweight, portable, and the safety cover protects the sockets from dust and water when not in use.

Which One Should You Choose When?

The FBT VHA 406A is your tool when you’re building a professional, high-power line array system – for concerts, festivals, permanent installations. If you need precise, directional sound projection, and dB, bandwidth, and coverage matter, then this module is your ally.

The Involight PD616, on the other hand, is the invisible hero of technical infrastructure. If you need to power multiple lights, monitors, effects, or amplifiers simultaneously from a single CEE output, and protection is important – then this power distributor is the winner. Not flashy, but indispensable.

Conclusion – No Competition, Just Different Roles

The FBT VHA 406A and the Involight PD616 aren’t rivals – they’re teammates. One guarantees sound quality, the other delivers the power to make it happen. If you take your production seriously, you’ll need both. The only question is: which one do you already have two of in stock, and which one do you still need?
